Rush of passengers at Gabtoli, extra fares being charged

Staff Correspondent: Braving all sorts of odds like rain, traffic congestion and harassment, the city people in thousands are leaving capital Dhaka for their respective village homes to celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha with their near and dear ones.
In capital Dhaka, the home-bound passengers are crowding railway stations and Sadarghat launch and Gabtoli, Sayedabad and Mohakhali inter-district bus terminals.
Dhaka city-dwellers started leaving the city on Thursday afternoon, the last day of the government office.
During visit it was seen that from early Friday Gabtoli Bus Terminal was overflowing with thousands of people.
Homebound people alleged through making a syndicate they are being being forced to pay additional fare. The bus workers are charging extra fares from them, sometimes double or three folds from the usual amount, on Aricha-Dhaka and Paturia-Dhaka routes.
A Kamrul Islam alleged that the normal fare of Padma Line Paribahan from Gabtali to Paturia is Tk 100, but at now the company is taking Tk 400 as fare.
There is an allegation that Nilachal Paribahan is taking Tk 400 instead of Tk 100.
Buses of Silver Line Paribahan are taking Tk 1000 instead of Tk 300 from Pabna bound passengers.
Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals for the Muslims, will be celebrated in the country on August 12.
