Saikat remanded over Rumpa murder

A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Abdur Rahman Saikat, 22, the accused of the mysterious death Rubaiyat Sharmin Rumpa, on a 4-day remand.

Police detained Saikat on Saturday over the death of Stamford University student Rumpa.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid passed the order when investigation officer of the case and also inspector of detective branch of police Shah Md Akteruzzaman produced him before the court seeking a seven-day remand for interrogation.

The court also rejected a bail petition filed by Saikat’s lawyer.

On Saturday, detectives detained Saikat for interrogation over the death of Rumpa, who was found dead in an alley under mysterious circumstances.

Later, Saikat was shown arrested.

The body of Rumpa, 21, a second-year English student of Siddheswari branch of the private university, was recovered from an alley of the area on Wednesday night.
