Second phase of Biswa Ijtema begins

The second phase of 55th Biswa Ijtema, one of the largest Muslim congregations in the world, began on Friday on the bank of Turag River at Tongi.

The second phase of Bishwa Ijtema began after Fazr prayers with the ‘Aam Boyan (religious sermon) by Islamic scholars and prayers and it will end with Akheri Munajat on Sunday, seeking spiritual well-being and welfare of the Muslim Ummah.

Lakhs of Muslim devotees from home and aboard have thronged the Bishwa Ijtema.

Followers of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi are participating in the second phase.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Anwar Hossain said adequate measures have been taken to ensure security for the participating devotees.

Gazipur City Corporation, district administration, police, RAB and Ansar and VDP have set up separate control rooms to monitor the overall activities of the Tongi Ijtema.

The first phase of Bishwa Ijtema began after Fazr prayers on January 10 and ended with Akheri Munajat on January 12, seeking spiritual well-being and welfare of the Muslim Ummah.

The Ijtema field is divided into 87 parts for the Muslim devotees of various districts. Of them three parts were kept reserved. Besides, a living zone has been built for foreign devotees in west-northern side of Ijtema field.

Tabligh Jamaat has been organising the congregation at the venue since 1967. In 2011, Tabligh split the Ijtema into two phases, dividing the participation of the people of 64 districts, to reduce pressure on the venue and ensure better management.
