Selling of Salimullah Muslim Orphanage land illegal: HC

Dhaka, Feb 11 (risingbd24.com)--The High Court (HC) on Monday issued a stay order on all landed properties of Sir Salimullah Muslim Orphanage (SSMO), forbidding grabbing of its land by anybody declaring construction of structure over it illegal.

A HC bench, comprising justices Mirza Hossain Haidar and Muhammad Khurshid Alam, passed the order following a writ petition, filed by four inmates of the orphanage and also the students of an educational institution run by it.

The two-member bench also issued a rule directing the concerned government departments to take steps to protect the glory and reputation of the century-old orphanage and all its properties immediately making 17 officials respondents to it asking them to comply with the HC directive and reply to the rule within four weeks.

According to the writ, a section of executive committee members of the board of governors of Sir Salimullah Muslim Orphanage, in connivance with Concord Real Estate Group, illegally sold out a big patch of its land to the realtors in 2003 with a nominal price to build a several structures over it, flouting the constitution of the orphanage made in 1909 by the then British India government and the donor of the land forbidding handing over any portion of its 17 acres of land any organisation or individual.
