‘Service holders will have to stay at workplaces during Eid’

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said government employees and staff cannot leave their workplaces despite holidays during the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha.

The home boss said this while replying to reporters after a meeting organised to discuss overall issues including workers’ wages and allowances, law and order situation at his secretariat office on Thursday (July 16).

“There will be general holidays for three days on the occasion of Eid this time. Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will take a final decision regarding the holidays of garment workers. But government employees and staff cannot leave their workplaces during the Eid holidays as the outbreak of coronavirus or Covid-19 has not ended yet. That’s why, everybody will have to stay at their respective workplaces,” Kamal said.

“Garment workers will have to pay wages and allowances for the month of July before Eid. For this, BGMEA and Ministry of Labour and Employment are jointly working,” the home minister said.
