Shimulia-Kathalbari ferry services halted

Over 500 vehicles remain stranded at the Shimulia-Kathalbari route as ferry services have been halted today due to poor navigability in a stretch of the Padma.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation's (BIWTC) Shimulia ghat Deputy General Manager Nasir Mohammad Chowdhury confirmed the matter.

He said, owing to the navigability problems, all types of ferry services were halted.

Dredging work at the channel is currently underway in order to improve navigability, he said.

Abdul Alim, manager (Commerce) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) in Shimulia Ghat said, around 550 vehicles were stuck in Shimulia Ghat causing immense sufferings to hundreds of passengers.
