Shooting incident due to misunderstanding: Home minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the exchange of fire between BGB and BSF along Rajshahi border took place due to misunderstandings.

The minister said this while addressing a programme at national press club in the capital on Friday.

He said, "We are all shocked by this sudden accident. It will be resolved through talks between the two sides."

The home minister said, “The firing occurred when BSF troops crossed the border following the apprehension of an Indian fisherman by BGB for violating the ongoing ban on hilsa fishing. That’s why the firing incident took place. However, the incident could be avoided if they wait to hold a flag meeting.”
