Six years of Felani's tragic death

Staff Correspondent: It has been six years in the passing of the tragic death of Bangladeshi teenage girl Felani Khatun.

 

Fifteen-year-old Felani was gunned down by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) when she, along with her father, was returning home from India through Anantapur border along Phulbari upazila of Kurigram on January 7, 2011.

 

A photograph showing Felani Khatun's dead body hanging on a border fence made of barbed wire was picked up by international media, and the publication of these photographs evoked international concern.

 

The ghastly photo of Felani’s bloody body hanging from the barbwire upside down sparked an outcry of protest and condemnation throughout the country.

 

Like thousands, renowned poet and lyricist Mahbubul A Khalid was deeply moved by the tragic incident. The tender heart of the lyricist melted down and he went on to portrait the distressing death of Felani through verses. He penned songs on describing the heartbreaking demise of the teenage girl.

 

Prominent composer and music director Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul composed the music of the song Felani (Felani Rey Korlo Guli) while famous singers Samina Chowdhury and Dinat Jahan Munni rendered their voices in two versions of the song.

 

 Like other songs and poems of Mahbubul A Khalid, the audio and music tracks of the song have been published on the website www.khalidsangeet.com. Besides, it was also released on YouTube.
