State minister for religious affairs was infected with COVID-19

State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Md Abdullah, who died at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Saturday night, was infected with coronavirus or COVID-19.

Doctors said the State Minister for Religious Affairs died of coronavirus infection as his COVID-19 test report came back positive.

Quoting doctors, Awami League Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua on Sunday (June 14) said, "State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Md Abdullah was found infected with coronavirus as his sample test report came back positive. He is now being taken to Tungipara as he will be buried there."

State Minister’s personal secretary Khandkar Yasir Arefin said that he passed away around 11:45pm on Saturday at the CMH.

Abdullah, a central leader of the Ruling Awami League, had been serving as a technocrat state minister.

The 74-year old was born at Kekania village of Gopalganj on September 8, 1945.
