Strong earthquake jolts India, Pakistan and Afghanistan

An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale today (Friday) hit Afghanistan and tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR and other parts of northern India.

The epicenter of the quake was in Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan, 246 km northeast of Kabul, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The earthquake occurred at a depth of around 190 kilometres after 5 pm, IMD added. Tremors of earthquake felt in various parts of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh at 5.13 pm, an IMD official in Chandigarh told.
In Delhi, people panicked in offices and homes as fans and hanging lights were seen shaking under the impact of the tremor. People in some offices and residential areas felt the shocks and rushed out of the buildings.

Earthquake tremors were also felt in Pakistan's Islamabad and Lahore, according to Reuters. Officials in Kabul said they were assessing damage in areas around the sparsely populated epicentre.
