Tk 1,13,000 cr is lying idle in banks: BB governor

Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Fazle Kabir has said an amount of Tk 1,13,000 crore is lying idle in different banks in the country.

In reply to a query, BB governor said this in post-budget virtual press briefing on Friday.

Fazle Kabir said, “There will be no problem in receiving the proposed budget deficit of Tk 85,000 crore from banks. In the current fiscal year, the government has already taken a loan of Tk 74,000 crore from banks and will borrow some more. Because the government has a plan to borrow Tk 82,000 crore in the revised budget.”

In reply to another query, he said, “Clients will have to pay excise duty if they have more than Tk 10 lakh in bank accounts. It was before. The duty was there from earlier.”
