Train derails in Sirajganj, bogies catch fire

A total of seven bogies of Rangpur Express train have derailed and four bogies and the engine of the train caught fire in Ullapara of Sirajganj.

The accident took place on Thursday noon. Loco master (driver of the train) and assistant loco master received injuries.  

Following the accident, rail communication between Dhaka and northern districts of the country was snapped.

On information rescue team of Sirajganj fire service rushed to the spot.

Ullapara fire service station officer Nazir Hossain and assistant station master Rafiqul Islam said that Rangpur-bound train left Dhaka at 10:15am and braced an accident at Ullapara station in Sirajganj at around 3:00pm. Meanwhile, six compartments of the train derailed and hit another compartment. In the meantime, the engine and three front coaches of the train caught fire.

Sirajganj Fire Service Deputy Director Abdul Hamim confirmed the matter.
