Trial begins in blogger Washiqur murder case

Staff Correspondent: A court in Dhaka has formally started trial in the murder case of blogger Washiqur Rahman Babu by framing charges against five accused.
Dhaka`s Third Metropolitan Sessions Judge Ziaur Rahman Zia framed the charges against the accused. The court also fixed August 4 for taking deposition on the murder case.
Washiqur Rahman Babu, 27, was attacked by three cleaver-wielding youths in the capital`s Tejgaon Industrial area on March 30.
Police, with the help of locals, caught two of them with machetes from the spot of the incident.
The detained persons were identified as Jikullah and Ariful Islam, students of a madrassa in Chittagong and Darus Ulum madrassa in Dhaka’s Mirpur area respectively. Another attacker Abu Taher managed to escape.
Monir Hossain, brother-in-law (sister`s husband) of the killed blogger, filed a murder case with Tejgaon Police Station against the attackers.
