Two shot in Dhaka 'gunfight' with RAB

Staff Correspondent: Two persons were shot in a 'gunfight' with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Dhaka Udyan Akota Housing area of the capital's Mohammadpur early Tuesday.

The bullet-hit injured were known as Helal, 35, and Siraj, 50. They both are members of a robber group, police claimed.

Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, Senior Assistant Director (legal and media) of RAB confirmed the news.

He said, acting on a tip off, a team of RAB-2 conducted a drive at Akota Housing area of Mohammadpur while some robbers were taking preparations for robbery.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the robbers fired at them. RAB members also retaliated for self-defence, leaving two bullet-hit, he added.

Later, law enforcers held them along with two other cohorts, he said.

RAB also seized a foreign pistol, two magazines, two bullets, three knives and some materials used for cutting grills of houses, the RAB official said.

The two bullet-hit detainees were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), he added.
