Verdict in Risha murder case on Oct 6

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court on Wednesday fixed October 6 to pronounce verdict in a case filed over the murder of Suraiya Akter Risha who was a Class VIII student of Willes Little Flower School at Kakrail in the capital.

Dhaka senior special judge KM Imrul Kayes set the date for passing the verdict after concluding hearing the closing arguments placed by both the prosecution and defence lawyers.

Earlier, the court took testimony of 21 out of 26 witnesses in the case.

Tailor shop employee Obaidul fled away after stabbing Risha in her belly and hands on the footover  bridge in front of her school at Kakrail on August 24, 2016. Risha later on August 28 died while undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

In connection with the incident, Risha's mother filed a case under Section 307 (injuring for killing) of the Bangladesh Penal Code with the city's Ramna Police Station. When Risha succumbed later, the case was turned into a murder case under Section 302 (murder) of the Bangladesh Penal Code.

Charge sheet against sole accused Obaidul Khan was submitted to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court on November 14 in 2016. Ramna Police Station officer-in-charge (OC-Investigation) Ali Hossain submitted the charge sheet to the court.

Later on April 17, 2017, the court started trial against sole accused Obaidul Khan in Suraiya Akter Risha murder case turning down the acquittal of the accused. The accused is now in jail.
