Writ filed seeking ban on sending female workers to 5 countries

A Cox’s Bazar women has filed a writ petition with the High Court (HC) seeking ban on sending Bangladeshi female housemaids without ensuring proper legal safety to five Middle East countries.

The five countries are Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq.

The bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader is expected to hear the petition.

Law Secretary, Home Secretary, Secretary of Expatriate Welfare Ministry, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Judge of Chattogram Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal and Deputy Commissioner in Chattogram have been defendants in the writ petition.

Razia Khatun, hailing from Cox’s Bazar, filed the petition with the HC on November 12.

Supreme Court (SC) lawyer Zaman Akter Bulbul filed the petition on behalf of Razia Khatun.
