Writ filed seeking cancellation of Dhaka-10 by-polls

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court (HC) seeking cancellation of Dhaka-10 by-election results.

Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akond filed the petition on Sunday.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Secretary of LGRD ministry and secretary of Law Ministry were made the defendant in the petition.

Yunus Ali Akond said, “The election was not participatory as people could not exercise their franchises in voting of March 21 due to coronavirus outbreak. So, re-voting should be arranged once the situation becomes normal.”

Awami League candidate Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin won the by-election to Dhaka 10 constituency which was held amid staggeringly low turnout on March 21 due to coronavirus scare.

Mohiuddin secured 15,955 votes while his nearest rival Rabiul Alam bagged 817 votes.
