Writ petition seeks deferral of city polls

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking a direction to defer the date (January 30) of Dhaka city corporation elections, as the voter list is not updated yet.

Lawyer Yunus Ali Akanda submitted the petition before the HC on Wednesday.

Law ministry secretary, local government ministry secretary, chief election commissioner and returning officers of the two city corporations were asked to reply the writ petition.

The hearing over the issue would be held in the court of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Md Khairul Alam on Thursday.
