Youth killed in ‘gunfight’

A young man was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Imam Hossain, 25.

The gunfight took place when Imam Hossain approached a boat coming from Myanmar at a place adjacent to Naf river in Hnila union of the upazila. Sensing the presence of BGB members, bullets were fired from the boat, leaving the two BGB members injured. BGB members also fired back in self-defence. Later, a body was recovered from the spot, according to BGB headquarters on Tuesday noon.
