ACC summons Ex-Gazipur City Corporation mayor Jahangir

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned the suspended former mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Jahangir Alam to give his statement to the agency on corruption allegations brought against him.

ACC sources confirmed the matter on Wednesday (May 17).

Jahangir Alam was asked to appear at the ACC headquarters on May 22.

According to the ACC, Jahangir Alam allegedly misappropriated crores of taka in various development projects of the city corporation and transactions through fake bank accounts.

Jahangir Alam, who was elected mayor of the Gazipur City Corporation from the Awami League in 2018, was suspended from the post of mayor in November 2021 on charges of various irregularities. He was also expelled permanently from the Awami League for breaching party discipline on May 15.
