Broadcasting drama against ideals: Walton sends legal notice to ads agency

Walton has issued a legal notice to advertising agency ‘Local Bus Entertainment’ for broadcasting a drama titled ‘Rupantor’ without notifying its content, which is against Walton's ideals and principles. 

In addition, Walton has also canceled all advertisement contracts with the agency. Meanwhile, Walton Group sincerely apologizes to the esteemed customers and well-wishers for the untoward matter.

On Tuesday (April 16, 2024), the legal notice was sent to Mohan Ahmed, owner of 'Local Bus Entertainment'. On behalf of Walton, the legal notice was signed by Md. Raisul Islam Riyad, advocate of Bangladesh Supreme Court. 

The legal notice stated that you are the owner of 'Local Bus Entertainment' advertising company. As per your proposal, Walton fridge agreed to conduct promotional branding in total of six (6) plays with the conditions of that the dramas shall not include any matter that offends the laws, principles, morals or religious sentiments of the country. It is very sad that some things have been included in the drama 'Rupantar' which has created controversy and hurt people's sentiments.  

The notice also stated that the contract with you has been canceled for broadcasting the drama 'Rupantor' without informing the Walton authority about the content of the drama earlier. Within 7 days of receiving the notice, Mohan Ahmed was asked to inform why a legal action will not be taken against him for airing the drama in violation of Walton's ideals and policies. 

Earlier, Walton instructed the advertising agency to withdraw the drama 'Rupantar' from various social media including Facebook, Youtube. And then, the drama was immediately withdrawn from all media platforms.

After that canceling the contract with the advertising agency, the Walton authority issued a legal notice to 'Local Bus Entertainment' asking why legal measures will not be taken for airing advertisement in such a drama contrary to the ideals and policies of the Walton Group.

Meanwhile, the official statement said that Walton never supports and is involved in any activities that hurt the religious and social sentiments of the people of the country. Walton Group is deeply shocked by this untoward incident and sincerely apologizes to its valued customers and well-wishers. In the statement, Walton said that necessary measures are being taken through proper investigation so that such incidents do not recur in future.
