Taiwan provides medical items to Bangladesh through Walton

The Republic of China (Taiwan) has provided different sorts of medical items to Bangladesh to assist the country preventing coronavirus or COVID-19 outbreaks.

The medical items which include 1 lakh pcs surgical mask, 1600 pcs  N95 mask, 10,000 face shield, 500 pcs personal protective suite (PPE), 200 pcs goggles and two set of ventilators, were given through Bangladesh's leading electronics and ICT devices manufacturing company Walton.

Representatives of Taiwan and Walton officially handed over the medical items to the Ministry of Health (MoH) of Bangladesh at a function held at the ministry’s conference room at secretariat in the capital on Monday (24 August, 2020). With the joint collaboration of Ministry of Post and Telecommunication Ministry as well as Commerce Ministry, Walton and Taiwan External Trade Development Council jointly organised the function.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Health Minister Zahid Maleque and Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar attended the programme.

Among others, Commerce Secretary Dr. Md. Jafar Uddin, Health Secretary Md. Abdul Mannan, Post and Telecommunication Secretary Md. Nur-Ur-Rahman, Walton’s Executive Director and Computer Department’s Chief Executive Officer Liakat Ali, Taiwan Trade Center in Dhaka Office Director Trimothy W.D Tso and Manager Ranjon Chakraborty, HWA Well Textiles (BD) Limited Managing Director Rory Sou, How Are You Textile Industries Ltd’s President and Managing Director Liu, Shuang Chuan were also present on the function.

The ministers in their speech thanked Walton and Taiwan for their support to Bangladesh government and people in preventing COVID-19.

In the function, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, “Walton is the world-class company to manufacture electronics products. Walton has come forward to extending its support towards the countrymen in preventing coronavirus. Prior to this, the company has also provided medical items and food items among the common people. They have appeared as a friend in time of danger. Like Walton, other companies should come forward this way.”

Health Minister Zahid Maleque said, “Walton is the largest industry company in Bangladesh. Thanks to Walton for extending its support towards people during coronavirus pandemic."

Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said, “Walton has set an example by manufacturing digital devices in Bangladesh and later exporting those digital devices abroad, especially to the United States.”
