120 BGP personnel handed over

Some 120 Border Guard Police (BGP) personnel out of 330 Myanmar soldiers, who took shelter in Bangladesh due to the internal fight in their country, have been handed over to the Myanmar authorities in the first phase. The registration of the remaining others is underway.

They were handed over to the Myanmar authorities under the supervision of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Inani Beach Navy Jetty Ghat in Cox’s Bazar around 11 am on Thursday (February 15).

BGB Director General (DG) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Myanmar Ambassador to Bangladesh Aung Kyaw Moe and other top officials of both the countries were present during the handover ceremony.

Earlier, a statement sent from the BGB on Wednesday (February 14) noon said: “Some 330 Myanmar BGP and other armed forces, who took shelter in Bangladesh due to the internal fight in their country, will be handed over to the Myanmar authorities under the supervision of BGB at Inani Beach Navy Jetty Ghat in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.

A total of 330 members of Myanmar border and security forces fled to Bangladesh to avoid the ongoing clashes with the Arakan Army.
