Govt allows to import 39,000 metric tonnes of onion

The authority has allowed to import about 39,000 metric tonnes of onions from Sonamasjid land port in Chapainawabganj.

Samir Ghosh, Deputy Director of Sonamasjid Plant Disease Control Centre confirmed the matter on Tuesday morning (March 5).

A total of 31 importers of Sonamasjid land port have received permission to import onions. They are allowed to import 39,000 metric tons of onion, he said.

In reply to a question regarding the time frame of the import, he said that no specific date has been fixed in this regard so far. However, onion import will start through this port before Ramadan.
