1 killed in Cox`s Bazar upazila election violence

A man was stabbed to death during clashes among supporters of two upazila chairman candidates in Eidgaon upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday (May 21).

The deceased was known as Safur Alam, 35, son of Nur Uddin, hailed from Pashchim Pokkhali area of the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shuvo Ranjan Chakma said Safur Alam, an activist of “Telephone” symbol and Saidul, brother of Masud, an agent of “Motorcycle” symbol locked into an altercation over establishing supremacy in the election. At one stage, the victim was attacked by Masud, leaving him critically injured.

Later, the injured was sent to Eidgaon Medical center where duty doctor declared him dead.

Legal steps are being taken in this regard, said the OC.
