200 houses gutted in Ukhia Rohingya camp

Around 200 shelters were gutted in a fire that broke out at Camp 13 of the Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya on Friday morning (May 24).

The fire originated around 11:30 am.

Ukhiya police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shamim Hossain said on information, a police team was sent to the spot.

Nine fire units were sent to the spot. However, five fire units managed to bring the blaze under control. Meanwhile, four fire units returned to the base.

Cox’s Bazar Fire Service and civil defense Deputy Assistant Director Atish Chakma said the reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.
