Brokers take over health complex in Rajbari

Goalanda upazila health complex in Rajbari is allegedly crowded by medical representatives and brokers of diagnostic centres and private hospitals.

This reporter found that the ticket counter of the upazila health complex was almost empty 10:00am on Thursday (September 22). But there was a queue of patients outside of the hospital.

Meanwhile, a doctor was seen entering into the hospital. Noticing the doctor, the medical representatives rushed the room of the doctor along with their gifts – medicine, pens and notepads. No patients got scope to meet the doctor following the crowed of the representatives.

Wishing anonymity, a patient of the hospital said, its tough to get a bed here. So, floor of the hospital is last option for patients. Whereas, the quality of foods of the hospital is really poor.

A shopkeeper in front of the hospital said, there is no treatment facilities in the hospital. At least four out of five patients were sent to private hospitals by brokers.

Goalanda upazila health and family planning officer Dr Syed Amirul Haque said, its s an old hospital. There is a manpower shortage in the hospital.
