Water vessel workers go on work abstention in Barishal

Water vessel workers are observing an indefinite, countrywide work abstention to press home their 10-point demands, including minimum monthly wage of Tk 20,000, appointment letter, ID cards and service books.

As a result of this, water vessel service in Barishal have remained suspended.

Water vessel passengers are suffering a lot as no water vessels were seen leaving and entering the river ports across the southern regions of the country from Sunday (November 27) morning.

Master Abul Hashem, the president of Bangladesh Water Transport Workers’ Federation Barishal unit, said water vessel workers started their work abstention across the country under the banner of Bangladesh Noujan Sramik Federation, suspending water vessel service with Barishal division.

Other demands of the workers include providing appointment letter, identity card and service book to workers, formation of Contributory Provident Fund and Seafarer Welfare Fund to provide food and sea allowances, providing Tk 10 lakh compensation for accident and death at work.
