Girl ‘commits suicide’ failing to get GPA-5 in SSC

A girl allegedly committed suicide by taking antiseptic liquid Savlon at her house in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh as she could not obtain GPA-5 in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam this year.
Deceased, Proma Dutta Nijhum, 16, was the daughter of Nirmal Chandra and a student of Khairullah Government Girls High School.
Gafargaon Municipality Councillor Alfaz Uddin confirmed the incident.
Police said Proma obtained a GPA of 4.67 from Science background in the SSC results released on Monday. She was mentally broken due to not getting the desired result.
In the absence of family members, she took antiseptic liquid Savlon later in the afternoon and fell seriously ill.
She was first taken to the Upazila Health Complex and the doctor on duty sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment. She died in the evening while undergoing treatment there.
Faruque Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gafargaon police station, said, “We received no complaints yet. But legal action will be taken in this regard.”
