Dhaka Premier League resumes

The edition of Dhaka Premier League season has resumed today, Monday (May 31) after 59 days of postponement due to the second wave of coronavirus.

The first match began at 9:00 am on the grounds in Mirpur National Sher-e-Bangla Stadium and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) and the second match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm.

Winning the toss, Abahani Limited invited Partex Sporting Club to bat first in the Mirpur National Sher-e-Bangla Stadium while Brothers Union is batting against Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club in BKSP.

Walton, the country’s leading electrical, electronic goods and automobiles manufacturing company, has become the title sponsor of Dhaka Premier League for the ninth straight year.

This time, Dhaka Premier League has been named after ‘Bangabandhu DPL Sponsored by Walton’ to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Walton has been the title sponsor of Bangabandhu National Cricket League for 10 years and also the same of Dhaka Premier League for nine years.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the name of sports-friendly Walton Group as the title sponsor of Bangabandhu DPL at a press conference held at Mirpur National Sher-e-Bangla Stadium at 12:00pm on Sunday (May 30).

The traditional 50-over tournament, however, will be played in T-20 format with the participation of 12 clubs. Six matches will be played every day.

The 12 clubs that are participating in Dhaka Premier League include Abahani Limited, Brothers Union, Gazi Group Cricketers, Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity, Legends of Rupganj, Mohammedan Sporting Club, Old DOHS Sports Club, Partex Sporting Club, Prime Bank Cricket Club, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club.

The 2019-20 season’s League was postponed on March 19, 2020 after just one completed round of matches in compliance with measures taken to fight the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.
