Draft of cybersecurity act gets approval

The Advisory Council has approved the draft of the Cyber Security Act.

The approval was given at a meeting of the advisory council held on Tuesday (May 6) under the chairmanship of Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government.

Dr. Asif Nazrul, Law Adviser briefed reporters after the Advisory Council meeting at the Foreign Service Academy.

Earlier, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, at an event said the proposed new law suggested to remove nine regressive sections of the previous law.

The Deputy Press Secretary said the interim government took a policy decision to repeal the Cyber Security Act after taking power. All cases filed against journalists under this law have already been withdrawn. If the new law comes into effect, it will help create an environment for free journalism in the country.
