JnU student burnt in explosion dies

Mehedi Hasan Shaon, a student of Jagannath University (JnU) who was burnt in an explosion during gas line repair work in Gendaria area of old Dhaka, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday (May 6) morning.

He passed away around 5:50 am while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Dr. SM Ayub Hossain, resident surgeon of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Mehedi suffered 30 per cent burns.

Gendaria police station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Nazmul Islam said, “A process to hand over the body to his family is underway. A case has been filed in this connection.” 

Eight persons including Mehedi were injured in an explosion while gas line repair work was underway on the road at Dhupkhola Bazar on Monday (May 1). Of the injured, Mehedi with 30 per cent burns was admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Mehedi Hasan was student of Botany Department at the university.
