The 30-year-old man arrested by Bandra Police early on Sunday in connection with the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is suspected to be a Bangladeshi national, according to Mumbai Police.
Based on the materials seized from him, the police have reached this conclusion. He has been identified as Mohammad Sharif Ul Islam Shehzad.
The motive of the offence is theft. Shehzad will be produced before a holiday court on Sunday.
“Foreigners’ Act, 1946, and Foreigners’ Order, 1948, along with the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, have been applied,” said DCP Dikshit Gedam.
Police said that Shehzad had entered Khan’s residence for the first time on the day of the crime. “The accused came to Mumbai five to six months ago. For a few months, he stayed in Mumbai and then on the fringes of the city. A fortnight ago, he reentered Mumbai,” Gedam said.
He was working with a housekeeping agency and worked in Thana. He was using various aliases.
