Singer Ajit Pandey no more

KOLKATA, June 13: Noted mass song singer Ajit Pandey died of heart attack on Thursday morning. He died at his house in Kolkata at 9.15am. He was 75.
Pandey had been suffering from illness for a long time. Doctors said he died of heart attack.
Pandey was born in Murshidabad. He went to Kolkata to study at graduation level and joined left-leaning politics. He played an important role in mass theatre movement. He was also elected as member of local assembley with CPI-M ticket from by-election in Boubazar constituency in 1999.
Pandey played an important role to change the name of the West Bengal capital `Calcutta` to `Kolkata`. His noted songs include `Onra Amader Gaitey Deyna,` `Tumi Jokhon Kandchile,` `Amalkanti Hotey Cheyechile."
A pall of gloom decended on Kolkata`s music and drama world following his death.
