Bangladesh is celebrating the 52nd Independence and National Day on Saturday (March 26) with a flurry of programs as the pandemic has ebbed in the country. The nation is paying homage to the Liberation War martyrs and vow to materialize their dreams.

The British quit the Indian sub-continent in 1947, but the people of Bengali-dominated East Pakistan were left shackled by West Pakistan rulers’ oppression for decades. The Bengalis were preparing for an armed struggle after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman called for independence in his historic March 7 speech in 1971.

The Pakistani forces swooped down on innocent civilians in one of the most horrific genocides in world history in the night of March 25 in 1971. Before being arrested by the Pakistani forces, Bangabandhu formally declared independence on March 26.

After a nine-month War of Liberation with the supreme sacrifices of three million people and the honour of 200,000 women, Bangladesh achieved its independence on December 16, 1971.

Many songs have been written centering the Independent and National Day of the Bengali Nation. Prominent poet, lyricist and composer Mahbubul Khalid also penned songs on the glorious event. Two of his songs portray the spirits of independence.

Mahbubul Khalid himself composed the music of one of the songs, titled 'Ma Tomar Vabna Kothay' in which Saran and Priyanka rendered their voices. The music of the other song titled ‘Sagor Sagor Rokto Diye’ has been composed by late Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul. Young and promising singer Nandita gave her voice to the song.
The songs have been published on ‘www.khalidsangeet.com’, a website that contains the songs and poems of Mahbubul Khalid. Besides, music videos of his songs are also released on YouTube's ‘Khalid Sangeet’ channel.

Mentionable, poet, lyricist and composer Mahbubul Khalid has penned and tuned a vast number of songs including various days or observance, popular and renowned personalities, social awareness etc. He writes and composes songs for all humankind irrespective of race, religion and caste. To him, music is not for any race or religion, music is for everyone. His songs and poems are rich with the message of love and humanity.
