The UN chief Antonio Guterres has said that Palestinians are enduring ‘one of the darkest chapters’ of their history.
In a statement ahead of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on Wednesday, Guterres reiterated his call for a long-term ceasefire and the release of all captives held by Hamas.
While condemning the October 7 attack, Guterres said it “cannot justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people”.
He also called for “unrestricted access for lifesaving aid, the release of all hostages, the protection of civilians and an end to violations of international humanitarian law”.
