10 dead after vehicle falls into gorge in India

A vehicle carrying 26 passengers fell into a gorge in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district, killing at least 10 people on Saturday. 

The incident took place near the Alakananda River on the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway.

 As many as 16 people were wounded in the accident, police said.

At around 11 am, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell about 250 meters down to the banks of the Alaknanda River on the Badrinath National Highway.

A rescue operation was launched, and the injured have been hospitalised.
