5 killed in fresh violence in Manipur

Five people were killed in fresh violence in Jiribam district of India’s Manipur on Saturday.

Security forces, on the other hand, destroyed three bunkers of militants in Churachandpur district on Friday after the insurgents launched rocket attacks in adjoining Bishnupur that killed one person and injured six others.

On Saturday, one person was shot dead in his sleep while four others were killed in a subsequent exchange of fire between people from two warring communities in Jiribam district.

Tension escalated also at Sugnu in Kakching district, from where gunfire and bombing were reported.

On Friday, rocket attacks killed a man at the home of late former chief minister Mairenbam Koireng and destroyed two structures in Bishnupur district.
