Two earthquakes jolt India’s Kargil, Arunachal Pradesh

Two earthquakes rocked different parts of India — Kargil in Ladakh and West Kameng in Arunachal Pradesh — early on Friday, March 14, before people celebrated the festival of Holi, reports cnbctv18.
A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck Kargil, Ladakh, at 2.50 am, with tremors reported across Jammu and Kashmir, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The quake was recorded at a depth of 15 km.
Ladakh and Leh fall under Seismic Zone IV, making them highly vulnerable to earthquakes.
Meanwhile, around 6 am, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck West Kameng in Arunachal Pradesh. The quake was recorded at a depth of 10 km.
India’s seismic zoning categorises regions into four levels—Zone V, IV, III, and II, with Zone V being the most prone to earthquakes and Zone II the least as per the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)._Agencies.
