India detains over 500 Bangladeshis in Gujarat
Kolkata Correspondent || risingbd.com
Indian police have detained 500 Bangladeshi migrants in a sweeping crackdown in the western state of Gujarat.
The crackdown was carried out following a direction of Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi.
He had given a two-day ultimatum for remaining Bangladeshis in the state illegally to surrender voluntarily.
Among the people, 400 were detained from Gujarat and 100 from Surat.
The Indian government often describes undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants as ‘Muslim infiltrators’, accusing them of posing a threat to the country's security.
