Muggers snatch Tk 22 lakh shooting businessman in Dhaka’s Mirpur

Some unidentified miscreants shot a businessman and snatched away Tk 22 lakh from him in broad daylight in the capital’s Mirpur area.
Md Mahmudul Islam, 55, owner of Mahmud Money Exchange, was critically injured in the shooting. During the incident, he was traveling to his office at Mirpur Section-10 from his residence in Mirpur Section-6 by a battery-run rickshaw.
The incident happened around 10 am on Abdul Baten Road, between the stadium swimming pool and the fire service office.
Police said six muggers on two motorcycles intercepted Mahmudul and demanded money from him. When he refused to give money, they shot him on the left side of his back and took away a bag containing the cash.
Local residents rescued him and rushed him to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
Mirpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sajjad Hossain said, “Efforts are underway to collect CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify those involved in the mugging.”
