The death toll from floods that struck the town of Mokwa in central Nigeria earlier this week has risen to more than 150.
According to a spokesperson for the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, the floods also displaced over 3,000 people and completely destroyed 265 homes.
Two bridges were also swept away by the floodwaters.
The agency confirmed that search and rescue teams are continuing efforts to locate missing persons.
President Bola Tinubu extended his condolences overnight and said search-and-rescue operations were ongoing with the support of Nigeria’s security forces.
“Relief materials and temporary shelter assistance are being deployed without delay,” he wrote in a post on social media.
