Trump selects daughter-in-law to run for Tillis’ Senate seat

US President Donald Trump wants his daughter-in-law to run for Sen. Thom Tillis’ open seat.

The US President announced this on Tuesday afternoon.

Tillis announced Sunday that he would not seek another term next year, coming after pressure from the president after Tillis’ opposition to the One Big Beautiful Bill.

Lara Trump is a North Carolina native and wife of the president’s son, Eric. 

On a flight back to Washington, Trump told reporters he would be pushing for Lara Trump to run in next year’s GOP primary in North Carolina.

The former Republican National Committee co-chair, the president’s daughter-in-law, was a key campaign surrogate last year.
