West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has admitted that Awami League leaders and activists are present in Kolkata with the direct support of the Indian government.
She admitted this while inaugurating two housing projects in Newtown of Kolkata on Thursday.
Bengalis are being harassed in India's BJP-ruled states for speaking Bengali. We are protesting such incidents, she said.
Regarding the Bangladesh Awami League leaders and activists sheltering in India, Mamata said, “The Indian government has kept some of them as our guests, didn’t I say that?”
Regarding the reason for sheltering them, she said, “There are political reasons for keeping them as guests. The Indian government also has other reasons. But, we have not said anything.”
Addressing the central government, Mamata said, “If you speak in Bengali, you are a Bangladeshi! This happens sometimes! Why do you say that? All the refugees who came to India as a result of the Indira-Mujib agreement of 1971 are definitely Indian citizens, not Bangladeshis in any way. Now they may not be able to come”.
