Four killed in Trinamool-BJP clash in West Bengal

International Desk: At least four persons were reportedly killed in a clash between the BJP and TMC workers at Nyajat in Basirhat in India’s West Bengal.

While police claimed that one person—Qayum Mollah (26 yrs) was killed, the BJP claimed that three of their supporters were killed in the clash.

The trouble started on Saturday afternoon when the supporters of the two political parties clashed at Hatgachhi under Nyajat police station over removing party flags.

Trinamool leader and state food minister Jyotipriyo Mullick said that TMC worker Mollah was attacked while he was attending a party meeting at Hatgachhi. “He was first shot from the point-blank range. The BJP supporters then dragged him out and stabbed him again. We don’t support violence, but such acts will receive befitting reply from us,” Mullick said.

Meanwhile, the BJP claimed that three of their workers including a district president of SC Morcha was killed when they were allegedly attacked by the TMC supporters. “Three of our supporters Pradip Mandal, Swapan Mandal and Sukanta Mandal were killed when TMC supporters opened fire at them on Saturday evening. Two more party supporters are missing,” said Sayantan Basu, general secretary of the Bengal BJP.

Meanwhile, a large police force and RAF were sent to the spot immediately after the incident. “One person was seriously injured in a political clash at Hatgachhi. He succumbed to injuries while being taken to the hospital,” a senior police officer said.
