Fresh initiative to distribute passports for Banglaeshi expatriates in Malaysia

Despite the coronavirus epidemic, Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia is providing regular passport services in compliance with the government’s rules.

Even in the lockdown, the High Commission has accepted the application for passport renewal through the post office. As part of that, it has been decided to distribute passports from Johor, Penang and Klang.

This information was revealed in a notification signed by Mashiur Rahman, the counselor (passport and visa) of the high commission.

Recently, the number of applications for passport renewal has rapidly increased due to the Malaysian government’s announcement of legalisation. At the same time, there is allegation that even after one month of submitting passport, it is not appeared in the list published by the High Commission. So, expatriates worry that it will take more time to get their passports which may hinder them from participating in the legalisation process.

Amid the concerns, the High Commission has decided to distribute passports from Johor, Penang and Klang to expedite the passport service. The offices of leading remittance houses in these areas are being used as passport distribution addresses.

Earlier, six people were newly appointed to ensure passport services for expatriates, said Golam Sarwar, the High Commissioner to Malaysia.

According to the new announcement, the service will start on January 2 and 3 at the City Square branch of Agrani Remittance House in Johor at the beginning of the new year. Besides, passports will be distributed at the same place on February 6, 7 and March 6, 7.

The activities will run at the Bukit Martaza branch of the Agrani remittance house in Penang from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on January 16, 17, February 13, 14 and March 20 and 21.

Besides, passport distribution will continue on January 23, February 27 and March 27at Klang’s Agrani remittance house.

As mentioned in the notification, passport holders have to make an appointment online at least 3 days in advance. It was also informed that no one can accept the passport without an appointment.
