Jamaat leaders won’t take plots, donations, won’t commit corruption: Ameer

If Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, it will work as a servant of the people, not as an owner, and will not take government plots, even an MP or minister will not take. They will not ride in tax-free vehicles and take donations, and will not commit corruption.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman made this announcement in his speech at the national rally at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Saturday (July 19).

He said, “Inshallah, there will be another struggle. We have already fought against fascism, now we will fight against corruption.”

The national rally was organized to press home the party’s seven-point demand including adopting a proportional representation (PR) system for national elections.

The programme officially commenced at 2:00pm, with recitation from the Holy Quran, at Suhrawardy Udyan where thousands of party activists from various parts of the country gathered.

Supporters continued to arrive at the venue in processions, chanting slogans and carrying banners in support of the demands.

The venue was fully packed with party supporters crowding nearby roads, as well as the Ramna Park.

Jamaat’s key demands at the rally include ensuring free, fair and peaceful elections with a level playing field, initiating fundamental political reforms, introducing the July charter and adopting a proportional representation (PR) system for national elections.
