Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday dismissed appeal hearing of Bangabir Abdul Kader Siddique’s appeal canceling his candidacy in the by-election of Tangail-4 (Kalihati) constituency.
A five member panel of election commission led by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad passed the order on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier, the hearing on Nasrin Siddiqui`s nomination was held in Election Commission around 11:00am. The Election Commission also cancelled the nomination of her.
A letter, signed by EC (legal affairs) senior assistant secretary Laila Sharmin, asked Krishak Sramik Janata League president Kader Siddique and his wife Nasrin Siddique, also party presidium member, to be present in the hearing at EC secretariat.
On October 13, Returning Officer M Alimuzzaman cancelled the nomination papers of four candidates including Abdul Kader Siddique and his wife Nasrin Kader Siddique.
Alimuzzaman said their nomination papers were cancelled as Credit Information Bureau (CIB) of the central bank informed them that they (Kader and Nasrin) have a loan worth Tk 10.88-crore in Agrani Bank Ltd in the name of their organisation Shonar Bangla Engineering.
Later on October 16, on behalf of Kader Siddique, Krishak Sramik Janata League joint general secretary Iqbal Siddique filed the appeal to EC against the decision seeking to regain his candidacy.
