National emergency service 999 temporarily suspended

National emergency service - 999 - has been temporarily suspended due to the massive fire that broke out at Bangabazar in the capital.

Md Kamrul Hasan, public relation officer of Police Headquarters, confirmed the matter, requesting people to contact local police stations or fire stations in case of emergency.

A total of 50 firefighting units worked to extinguish the blaze.

Bangladesh Army, Air Force, Navy, BGB, Ansar, RAB and police personnel also joined the operation to douse the Bangabazar fire that originated at the market at 6:10am on Tuesday (April 4).

The massive fire that ripped through the Bangabazar Shopping Complex in the city was brought under control after six and a half hours.
