Verdict in graft case against Mirza Abbas deferred to Dec 12

A Dhaka court has set December 12 to deliver the verdict in a case filed against BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas for amassing illegal wealth and concealing the information.

Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 Judge Manjurul Imam passed the order on Thursday (November 30) as the verdict was not ready for the delivery.

Earlier, on November 22, the court set today for delivering the verdict following conclusion of argument placement from Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and accused.

The court on November 5 showed Abbas arrested in the case and allowed a defence plea for allowing producing defence witnesses afresh. Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 on October 31 cancelled Mirza Abbas’s bail in the case and issued arrest warrant against him.

The ACC on August 16, 2007, filed the case with Ramna Police Station for amassing illegal wealth of Tk 7.54 crore and concealing information about wealth of Tk 57.26 lakh.

ACC assistant director Md Khairul Huda after investigation, filed charge sheet on May 24, 2008, accusing Abbas for amassing illegal wealth of Tk 4.23 crore.

The court on June 16, 2008, framed charges against Mirza Abbas.
